The Atelier des Lumieres, known for its immersive experience exhibitions of renowned artists, is currently hosting the Van Gogh Exhibit. Apart from displaying some momentous paintings by the tortured artist in the first sequence ‘The Starry Night’, there is also a sequence of ‘Japan of Dreams’ by Danny Rose, where the country is displayed as Van Gogh imagined it. This building crescendo ends on a high note with the ‘Verse’ sequence by Thomas Vanz.
Van Gogh was an unrecognised genius during his lifetime. He painted over 2000 paintings during the last 10 years of his life, before committing suicide in 1890. The first part of the exhibition maps his journey and his creative process through various different paintings from Potato Eaters (from the beginning) to the famed Starry Night (to maturity). Produced by Culturespaces, this exhibit is designed and conceived by four renowned Italian artists - designer Gianfranco Iannuzzi, director Renato Gatto, video artist Massimiliano Siccardi and composer Luca Longobardi. And their expertise is very harmoniously demonstrated in the exhibition. In true sense, Van Gogh comes to life in this exhibition.
This is followed by “Japan, as dreamed by Van Gogh”, a conceptual representation by Danny Rose Studios. This is a beautiful sequence of imaginary Japan, a country influenced greatly by Van Gogh and vice versa. It is believed that the wave drawn by Van Gogh in the painting ‘Starry Night’ is influenced by the Japanese piece of art ‘Great Wave of Kanagawa’ by Katsushika Hokusai. We can see many such references from Japan and the artist in this sequence.
These beautiful productions are aptly succeeded by Thomas Vanz’s ‘Verse’, a visual representation of the universe, galaxy and stars. We move through space and time as we see a visual explosion of shapes and colours, imagined by Thomas Vanz.
These 30 minutes were nothing short of a breath-taking visual spectacle offering an overall sensorial feast to the viewers. It was so engrossing that even the most curious of the kids were awestruck by the production and were craning their necks to absorb everything they could with their wonder-filled eyes.
This exhibition is highly recommended for everyone, whether they are artists, creatives or technologists. It will awaken the hidden child in their hearts who will be awed by something so simple and spectacular.
